The Crowley Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has served the Acadia Parish community for almost 50 years.
Crowley, LA is located in Acadia Parish in the Southwest section of the state. Historically noted for being the “Rice Capitol of the World,” Crowley can also boast of having a fine group of Delta women dedicated to serving its people civically, politically and spiritually.
The dedicated services of the women began in the year 1975. A great desire existed among several sorority sisters (formerly affiliated with the Lafayette Alumnae Chapter) to have a chapter established in Crowley. This desire led to the groundwork in setting up a Crowley chapter.
Numerous communications and long distance calls were sent and made to Grand Chapter and the former Southwest Regional Director, Soror Eula Butler. On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, June 1, 1975, at the home of Soror Gladys W. Butler, the Crowley Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., was chartered under the guidance of Soror Eula Butler, past Southwest Regional Director.
The new charter members were:
Sorors Lois T. Andrus, Martha Andrus, Charlise B. Barabin, Willie Bernard, Grace B. Brown, Elizabeth M. Broussard, Gladys W. Butler, Terry W. Corbins, Nancy D. Hooper, Bessie S. Jacob, Jo Ann Marx and Rosa G. Wilturner.
New members transferring from the Lafayette Alumnae Chapter were Sorors Wadie H. Bias and Yvonne D. Mills. Thus, the new Crowley Alumnae Chapter yielded 14 members.
The first officers and members for the years 1975 – 1977 were:
President: Gladys W. Butler
Vice-President: Willie H. Bernard
Recording Secretary: Nancy Hooper
Corresponding Secretary: Elizabeth Broussard
Financial Secretary: Lois Andrus
Treasurer: Bessie Jacob
Historian: Charlise Barabin
Parliamentarian: Jo Ann Marx
Sergeant-at-Arms: Rosa G. Wilturner
Keeper of Properties: Grace B. Brown

Crowley Alumnae Chapter is committed to carry that great Delta tradition to grow together spiritually, and with love.
